The Real MVP: The Wanda Durant Story – Lifetime – 2 hours 2 minutes

The Real MVP: The Wanda Durant Story

Wanda Durant had to struggle with a neighborhood riddled with crime, unrequited love, and mostly herself to raise her two sons, Anthony (a.k.a Tony) and Kevin Durant. Wanda was put on a deadline by her mother, Barbara, to move out and find a place of her own with her 2 boys. Wanda finally decides to step into gear and make a plan and a budget. Then, she works a deal with her landlord to do his wife’s hair once a month and he will take $50 off the rent. Wanda is slowly on her way to provided a great life for her and her sons. Next, Wanda puts her sons into a free basketball program at the Seat Pleasant Activity Center. Tony and Kevin both see basketball as a way to fulfill their dreams. Just as everything falls into place, Tony decided to go away to a military high school and Wayne, the boys’ father, has a baby with another woman. Wanda is brokenhearted and lost. Then, Tony finds her at her lowest. Wanda must find her dreams and support the dreams of her children to carry on and be strong.

Success is accomplished by hard work and the support of others. For Kevin and Tony, their biggest support system is their mother, Wanda. This story does not pull any punches with Wanda’s struggles or mistakes. You will find some parallel to your life with this story. It is not the tale of a basketball player’s claim to fame; but it is a story about the support system under him. The costumes, hair styles, and technology stay within the changing time periods … no matter how painful it can be to remember them … and know you wore them. This is a great and compelling story for Mother’s Day. Sit with your children and appreciate your mother.
