Lost on a beach, Hillary met CeeCee. CeeCee was a tough, smoking, no non-sense girl from the Bronx with talent as big as her hair. Hill was a prim, polish young future socialite with a good breeding and an even better education. Hill was trying to find her hotel but could  not remember the name. With a few question, CeeCee was able to guide the way. On the way to the hotel, Hill got to see CeeCee audition and she was struck by CeeCee’s talent. Later, the two went into the photo booth, took pictures, and exchanged addresses. For years, they wrote back and forth. Then, CeeCee looks up from the bar at the club she’s performing at and sees Hill standing there with luggage. Hill couldn’t take the life of high society anymore. She felt like she was living her life for others and moves in with CeeCee. Over time this friendship will go through marriage, divorce, careers, child birth, and death. But can their friendship stand against jealousy, failures, attacks, and time on the beach.

This was the best choice for Throwback Thursday because the remake will air on Lifetime soon. However the original, based on the novel, Beaches by Iris R. Dart, will make you go through every human emotion (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer).  Whether you are a CeeCee or Hill, you will wish you had this kind of friendship; a friendship that can stand the test of time and each other.  Bette Midler shines with her classic song, “Wind Beneath My Wings” all the while showing the perfect sass and wit.  Barbara navigates the upper echelon with the perfect poise and diction.  These two play perfect loving opposites flawlessly.  The only flaw was with wardrobe and set design.  Time passing is seen better with a change in cars, music, and clothes.  They should have focus on this as well.  However these actresses more than make up for this small flaw.  It’s easy to see why this is a classic.
