After purchasing cattle, Jed Cooper is surrounded by 9 men. They suspect he stole the cattle. Jed, a former lawman, shows Captain Wilson his bill of sale, but it only has a mark. The men knew that the seller could read and write so he would sign his name. They ask Jed for a description of the seller, and they know his description was wrong. They determined that Jed not only stole the cattle but killed the owner and his family. They decide to hang him for his crime. Jed tries to convince the men he is innocent but they hang him. As Jed is dying, a Marshall spots him and cuts him down. After saving him, the Marshall locks him up with several other men. Jed presents his case to Judge Fenton and the judge does an investigation. The right man is found and the judge hangs him in front of Jed and gives Jed the remaining cattle payment, $11.40. Jed only has one question, what about the men who tried to hang him. Jed wants justice. After looking into his background and knowing Jed won’t stop, he offers Jed a job as a Marshall. Then, the judge issues 9 warrants for the men who attempted to kill him. Marshall Jed won’t let anyone, any crime, nor himself stand in the way of justice, but he may become the man he hates.

This western set in 1889 Oklahoma, shows the story of a one-man revenge story. While he never goes on a bloodthirsty rampage, his path to revenge is cool and collected. He gives each man the option of giving up and going to jail. Each man takes his own path. While Jed is a tough guy, he is all class and strong willed. While watching this movie, you will see its influence on Kill Bill, Equalizer, and Gran Torino (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer). This movie was pure cinematography and wardrobe. There is no CGI or motion capture. Just pure acting and great dialog. While the story is great, the end is anti-climactic. It feels like there should be a part 2. So if you like a great resolution, this movie will leave you hanging, pun intended.

I give it 4 out of 5 stars

You’re making a mistake – Jed Cooper

You chained him, now you bury him – Marshall

May God have mercy on his soul – Judge Fenton

What about the 9 just men who hung me – Jed Cooper

We all have our ghost, Marshall. You hunt your way, I’ll hunt mine – Rachel

Alright, now that makes 3 mistakes we made. The money, we hung an innocent man, and we didn’t finish the job. We can’t undo the 1st 2, but we can still finish the job – Captain Wilson
